Iran is a step closer to its nuclear ambitions, following the successful testing of the Bushehr nuclear plant’s turbine, the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran has said.

“Tests were successfully carried out on the turbine of the Bushehr nuclear power plant’s reactor yesterday,” Fereydoun Abbasi, the organisation’s chief, told reporters.

The plant has also reached 40 per cent of its capacity, and preparations are currently underway for the initial launch. Previous reports have said that authorities are readying the plant for connection to the grid by the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which would be the end of August. It will produce 1,000 megawatts to the national grid once complete.
