ADC Energy Systems, an industrial and commercial heating, cooling and refrigeration firm, has been awarded the construction contract for two district cooling plants on Saadiyat Island.

Awarded by Paragon ABD, a project company founded as a joint venture between Dalkia Utilities and Arcapita, the plants will be one of the Middle East’s largest cooling operations, providing a combined capacity of 50,000 tons of refrigeration, serving an area of 27 square kilometres.

Three plants will eventually be built to cool the development, with the first two completed at the end of 2012 and the third, in Saadiyat Beach Development, will be completed in 2016 when further properties reach completion stage.

Christophe Maquet, CEO of Dalkia Utilities, said: “ADC was selected after a rigorous bid process, to ensure that layout and design considerations met stringent standards in reliability, energy efficiency and ease of operations and maintenance.”

ADC’s CEO, Ibrahim Sleiman added: “Thanks to our local experience in the UAE and our well-established resources in Abu Dhabi, ADC has the necessary skills and experience to deliver this fast-tracked project. Saadiyat is a prestigious development, and we are looking forward to the challenge of delivering the high quality demanded by Paragon and TDIC.”
