Iraq's power minister quits over contracts
Raad Shallal steps down following claims he signed fake contracts
Iraq’s Electricity Minister has resigned in the wake of accusations that he played a part in the signing of fake power contracts worth $1.7bn, an AK News report has said.
Raad Shallal signed contracts with two companies, one of which – a Canadian firm – was found to be non-existent. The other went bankrupt, and Shallal has defended his actions, saying that the contracts had been approved by both the Prime Minister and the deputy Prime Minister.
