Algeria to supply gas to Morocco from September
640m cubic metre gas supply deal for dual power plants
Algeria has signed a deal with Morocco to supply 640 million cubic metres of natural gas starting from September.
The deal was signed on Sunday between the Algerian state-owned hydrocarbons Group Sonatrach and the Moroccan Electricity Office (ONE).
The contract has been signed in Algiers, and stipulates that Sonatrach should deliver 640 million cubic meters of gas every year over the next 10 years via Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline (GME), linking Algeria to Spain via Morocco.
The gas is due to supply two power plants run by the ONE, namely the 470 megawatt plant of Ain Beni Methar and the 385 megawatt plant of Tahadart.
