Iranian nuclear scientist shot dead
Tehran vows increased security for scientists following latest attack
Local reports from Iran have stated that a nuclear scientist linked to the nation’s controversial atomic programme has been shot dead by unknown assailants outside his house.
According to a report by AFP, the ISNA news agency has identified that victim as Dariush Rezaei, who has been linked with the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran.
The shooting is the latest in a series of disappearances and incidents where Iranian nuclear scientists have been targeted, with the US being blamed on several occasions due to its public disapproval of Iran’s nuclear programme. The country is currently under four sets of UN Security Council sanctions over its refusal to suspend the enrichment of uranium.
Tehran has vowed to increase levels of security for its nuclear scientists following the attacks.
