Oman's Salalah IWPP Phase 1 complete
Power project is powering the local grid ahead of schedule
Sembcorp, the Singapore-based power and water company, has announced the completion of Phase 1 of the $1 billion Oman Salalah IWPP ahead of schedule.
The first half of 2012 is expected to see the project enter full commercial operation, with a gas-fired power plant putting out 445 megawatts and a seawater desalination plant with a capacity of 69,000 cubic metres per day.
The first phase is already producing 61 megawatts for the local Dhofar grid, and in a report by the Muscat Daily, a Sembcorp source said that phase two should be expected by the end of 2011, as the company continues to execute an ambitious 19-month construction schedule.
