Shortly after the announcement that a Marubeni-led consortium was the winning bidder for the construction of Oman’s Sur IPP, Phoenix Power Co has signed a 15 year power purchase agreement with authorities.

Coming on stream in two phases, the Sur IPP is the largest power project ever undertaken in Oman, and authorities are anticipating that 433 megawatts will come on stream by April 2013, and the remaining 1,567 a year later.

Eng Jahdhami, deputy chairman of the Oman Power and Water Company, said: “OPWP is pleased to welcome Phoenix Power Co into the family of the private sector’s projects. More efforts are to be put in the coming years from everybody to meet the deadline of the project, as it is quite challenging.”
