The bid to be the contractor for a major Omani government contract to build Phase 1 of an emergency water reservoir network is now a seven-firm race.

Galfar Engineering, National United Engineering, Target LLC, Towell Infrastructure, Larsen and Toubro, Al Hassan Engineering and Oman Shapoorji Construction have all submitted tender documents to the board, which were opened yesterday.

Four locations in the Muscat region have been identified for emergency reservoirs – Qurum, Al Wadi al Kabir, Ruwi and Wattayah, and the winning bidder will receive the contract to construct all four.

The first phase of the project will see a total of six reservoirs built with a total capacity of 216,000 cubic metres. The contract also includes the construction of the associated infrastructure including access roads, pump systems and connections to the grid.

Phase 2 of the project is expected to be tendered later this year.
