A greenhouse gas data system to monitor emission levels in the UAE will soon be put in place, following the signing of an MOU between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a South Korean developer.

Developed by Global Green Growth Institute, which has recently opened new offices in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City, the greenhouse gas monitoring system will be accompanied by research into other green technologies, and allow further capacity building in the Middle East.

“We will partner with the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) and the International Renewable Energy Agency on existing green technology projects,” said Dr Seung-soo, former Prime Minister of South Korea and chairman of the GGGI board of directors. “We will work to create a green-growth programme for capacity building and research that is tailored to the UAE’s needs.”

Masdar’s chief executive, Dr Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, added: “The partnership is a natural progression for the UAE, which has places a strategic focus on renewable energy.”
