Canada’s Capgent has signed a $1.66 billion deal with Iraq’s electricity ministry to build 10 power plants, each with a generating capacity of 100 megawatts.

The plants will be constructed within 12 months in Anbar and Salaheddin, in an attempt to counter power shortages brought about by rising demand and insufficient generation. 50 smaller plants are also to be built as part of an emergency plan to fuel demand for power.
