The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has met with 18 developers for the pre-bid conference for the Hassyan 1 Independent Power Project.

Attending the meeting were delegates from South East Asia, Japan, Korea, India, USA, Europe and the GCC, and a team of top-level management from DEWA. The meeting comes after the authority announced last month that a series of developers had been shortlisted for the project which, in the first stage, will provide 1,500 megawatts of power to Dubai.

Speaking at the event, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, said: “Efficient, modern and reliable infrastructure has always been one of Dubai's key strengths and attractions and is a pre-requisite for sustainable economic growth."

“The IPP is an integral part of DEWA’s strategic direction moving forward,” he continued. “We look forward to building a unique and strong relationship with the private sector and adopting the best practices available internationally."

Planned for completion in 2014, the Hassyan 1 project will be constructed near Abu Dhabi.
