Qatar: new power and water rules for developers
Fresh regulations see new build projects adapted for energy efficiency
New guidelines in Qatar will hit construction projects, which will now have to abide by fresh electricity and water regulations in an attempt to curb energy usage.
Officials from Kahramaa, Qatar’s Electricity and Water Corporation, say that the new regulations could help cut utility bills by between 30 and 50 per cent, additionally easing pressure on power and water networks in the country.
Set to come into force on 1 August, the guidelines outline regulations on lighting control, thermal insulation, and energy efficient air conditioning. The water regulation rules also encourage the use of low-flow taps filters to reduce water flow and, following the launch at a recent workshop, all new build projects will be required to adhere to the guidelines.
