12 per cent renewables for Egypt
Nation will push to increase its renewable power share
Egypt is aiming to generate a further 12 per cent of its energy from wind power, and eight per cent from solar and hydro, according to the country’s electricity minister.
Speaking at a ceremony in Cairo, Hassan Younis revealed that the Supreme Council of Energy had approved the granting of lands to investors, in exchange for a percentage of the project’s annual energy production.
Egypt currently generates more than 10 per cent of its power from renewable resources, and is planning to exempt components and spare parts for renewable energy plants from customs and sales taxes.
