Don't blame us for cuts: Electricite du Liban
Lebanese electricity authority blames power cuts on copper thieves
Lebanon’s electricity authority, Electricite du Liban, requested that the public lays the blame for power cuts at the feet of copper cable thieves.
The village of Bouarej has been hit by a spate of copper cable thefts, leaving much of the area without power, and protests at the authority’s office has prompted the use of temporary equipment in an attempt to restore a supply.
A statement from the company said: “EDL calls on citizens to remain calm, and refrain from protesting against problems that EDL is not responsible for, and it urges citizens to support the police in their work to arrest those directly or indirectly involved in robberies, which harm both the institution and citizens.”
