Blackouts have been a regular feature of daily life in Sharjah for four weeks now.

Four weeks of blackouts in Sharjah culminated in tempers boiling yesterday, as around 200 construction workers went on strike to protest about conditions at their accommodation, according to The National newspaper.

Staff from the Karam Construction Company protested for four hours at their firm’s head office due to the fact that accommodation in the Sajja industrial area had been without lighting and air conditioning for five days.

Last week, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) said that the outages had nearly been resolved, although the UAE daily said that yesterday, although some parts of Sharjah’s industrial area had power, there were still blackouts from 8am in Industrial Area 4, areas around the cricket stadium, Yarmouk and Samnan.
