With the construction of the UAE’s new Al Silaa power station complete, the GCC Interconnection Authority has announced it will link the UAE network to the GCC power grid.

A report by The Peninsular has said that having successfully tested and operated the link between the UAE’s power network and the rest of the GCC countries, the UAE will join Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait in Phase 1 of the GCC Power Grid Project.

Essa Hilal Al Kuwari, an engineer on the project, said that as well as strategic benefits in terms of economic solidarity, the electricity linkage will also help face the inability to generate power in emergency situations, and reduce the electrical generation reserve requirements of individual member countries.
