New water research centre for Kuwait
Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research to build development centre
The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has this week inked a deal with a construction company for the building and maintenance of a $20 million specialised water research centre.
Discussing the project, Director General of KISR Naji Al-Mutairi said that the activities of the centre would be oriented towards one of national priorities – namely Kuwait’s water security issue.
“The centre will devote its efforts to developing modern techniques on seawater desalination through thermal and membrane methods, in order to set specifications based on empirical outcomes,” he said.
He also said that these development methods would lead to the building of new commercial seawater desalination units of distinctive technical and economic efficiency, concentrating on increased output, reduction in costs and the securing of water resource sustainability.
