Policy change needed for Free Zone?
72 factories running on generators; calls for distribution changes
Officials from Sharjah International Airport Free Zone Authority (SAIF) have called on the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority to review procedures and charged levied on companies operating there, following the news that many companies are still running on generators.
In a report by The Peninsular, the Director General of SAIF, Taryam Matar, said that 72 factories in the free zone are operating on generators, despite some of them having applied and paid for electricity and water connections as far back as 2006.
SEWA uses a quota system to distribute utilities, arranging connections for fees of up to Dh600,000, and Matar has urged the authority to reexamine its policies to help SAIF work towards its strategy of attracting foreign investment.
