$40m substation deal for ABB
Saudi university awards new power project to ensure reliable supply
A university in Saudi Arabia has awarded a second offer to power technology group ABB, worth $40 million.
In an attempt to ensure a reliable power supply to the facility, Najran University will receive a brand-new substation, and ABB is to be responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the 380Kv unit.
The unit will be capable of distributing power at 132kV and 13.8kV, and ABB will also be responsible for supplying gas-insulated switchgear, transformers, medium-voltage switchgear and cabling.
“This substation will provide the power required for Najran University’s long-term development,” said Peter Leupp, head of ABBs Power Systems division. “Our compact substation technology will be deployed to ensure the facility has the smallest possible footprint.”
