The Russian-built Bushehr nuclear facility in Iran will be operational on schedule, the Tehran Times has reported President Dmitry Medvedev saying.

The paper has reported an exchange between Medvedev and president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who said that Iran welcomes the expansion of relations with Russia, indicating that the two countries can work together in many areas, including the cooperation on the use of nuclear energy meant for peaceful purposes.

The report also stated Ahmadinejad added that the launch of the Bushehr plant will benefit both nations. The plant was originally due to be working at full capacity by mid April, but progress took a backward step when it was announced last month that workers were beginning to remove fuel rods to conduct further tests.

When operational, the plant is planned to produce 1,000MW of electricity for the nation.
