Siemens and DEWA have signed two substantial new contracts at the annual WETEX in Dubai, continuing a relationship that goes back 30 years.

The first contract is for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of 400kV series reactor stations in the Jebel Ali and Al Aweer Warsan areas of Dubai, in an attempt to take pressure off overloaded power systems and keep fault levels to a minimum.

Wolfgang Braun, Head of Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution Middle East, explains: “Due to the current and expected population increase in Dubai over the coming years, and the subsequent demand and pressures on the electricity and water network, this project will allow for added safety on the network and guarantee safe and secure power supply for the future growth of Dubai.”

In addition, the company also signed a contract with DEWA to provide a computerised multisite real-time monitoring and control system for the authority’s electric power generation and transmission network, to enable secure and reliable electric supply, and a rapid recovery in the event of any disturbances to supply flow.
