Oman power authority issues $110m in contracts

 The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has awarded seven separate contracts totalling almost $110 million to build power transmission units for the sultanate.

Saudi National Contracting was awarded a contract for installing interconnecting transmission units for $55.8 million. The units will replace a 29km length of overhead line from Rusayl to Bausher, moving the lines underground.

Indian company Larsen and Toubro won a contract to build a power grid station at nearby Qurayat for $27.5 million. The station is designed to meet power demand growth in the area, which is part of the Muscat Governorate.

Seperate contracts were awarded for the upgrade of transformer stations at Bausher, Al Wadi al Kabir and Madinat al Sultan Qaboos totalling $14.7 million.

ABB was also awarded a $8.6 million contract to build a sophisticated communications, control and data acquisition centre, while another $2.1 million contract was signed for the construction of a central store for OETC at Mawaleh.

The contracts are part of the sultanate’s plans to build a 2,000 MW power plant in Sur, on the country’s most eastern point.

The Sur plant tender is expected to be issued next year.
