Ajman will need to boost its power supply to deal with projected population increases.
Areva’s transmission and distribution division has received an order from the Abu Dhabi Transmission & Dispatch Company (Transco) to build a substation in the emirate of Ajman.
The 400/132kV gas-insulated substation is scheduled to be completed by 2012, and the project is valued at around US$110m by Areva.
Transco, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (Adwea), are expanding the grid in Ajman to cater for growing demand from a population expected to rise from 250,000 today to around 2.2 million in 2030.
