Areva’s transmission and distribution (T&D) division in India has been awarded a US$24.7 million contract by L&T Power2, on behalf of utility Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company.
The scope of work includes the supply and installation of electrical balance of plant solutions for two 600MW thermal power plants at Malwa in southwest Madhya Pradesh.
“This electrical balance of plant project at Malwa is AREVA T&D’s third such contract in India in recent years,” said Rathin Basu, country president and managing director, AREVA T&D India. “This new contract reflects the success of the two previous orders and underlines AREVA T&D’s expertise in electrical balance of plant solutions.”
As part of the contract, Areva will manufacture and install a 400/220kV air insulated substation as well as distribution and power transformers and low voltage switchboards. The Malwa plant is scheduled for commissioning in September 2011 and the project is being funded by the Power Finance Corporation.
