Entries for one of the richest prizes in energy are now being taken.
The Zayed Future Energy Prize opened for entries in early June, and offers a US $1.5 million reward. The prize money is to be used in developing the entry idea further.
“We recognise that innovation will be a driving force to bring us closer to the widespread adoption of renewable energy,” said Sultan Al Jaber, director general of the Zayed Future Energy Prize and CEO of Masdar in a statement. “The Zayed Future Energy Prize aims to inspire this kind of innovation and honour contributions that help us solve our global energy challenges.”

The prize was first launched at the World Future Energy Summit in 2008. It is intended to recognise individuals or organisations that have shown innovation or leadership in their contributions to developing the future of energy. The winner of the 2009 prize will be announced on 19 January, 2010.
Last year’s winner, Dipal Chandra Barua, used the prize to set up a scholarship programme through his organisation in Bangladesh.
