Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that it has invited proposals and tenders from consulting companies to implement a Smart Grid strategy aimed at optimising Dubai's generation, transmission and distribution networks. Setting a deadline of mid-May, DEWA has said that it is looking to incorporate automated decision-making and interoperability into its Smart Grid strategy.
The intention of the scheme is to improve the efficiency of the electrical network and reduce energy consumption. DEWA has been focusing on connecting renewable energy sources to the grid as part of efforts to improve the sustainability and reliability of its operations.
DEWA is to release a 'Smart Grid System Strategy' report covering its present monitoring, control and communications capabilities of the electrical system. The report is expected to provide recommendations on where there is a need to install additional equipment.
