Siemens Energy has announced that Iraq's Ministry of Electricity has placed a follow up order for the supply of equipment at the Al Mussaib power plant. The facility is the largest power plant in the country, and the deal will see Siemens supply control and instrumentation systems, field equipment and steam turbine generator parts.
Scheduled for completion in 2013, the work is intended to boost the output of the plant, provide efficiency gains and will ensure reliable power to meet Iraq's burgeoning electricity demand. Siemens will be providing the new rotating elements for four 320 MW steam turbines, together with the generator rotors. This deal follows Siemens' successful completion of similar contracts at the plant in 2009 and 2010.
Dietmar Siersdorfer, Siemens Energy CEO, said "Iraq is facing acute and critical challenges in providing reliable power to all the country's residents and Siemens is fully committed to assisting the Ministry of Electricity in meeting those challenges".
