DEWA defers Hassyan Power Plant Project
, April 19th, 2012
Construction of the Hassyan Power and Desalination Power Project in Dubai has been deferred after Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) announced that existing power capacity had been boosted. DEWA has increased output at Jebel Ali Power Station by approximately 450 MW through efficiency gains and the installation of new technologies.
DEWA also announced that percentage line losses in the electricity network has been reduced from 6.28% in 2001, to 3.49% last year. These savings, together with the increased production capacity, will offset existing demand for power. DEWA are also pressing ahead with projects to build solar power plants in partnership with the private sector.
The Hassyan project has been valued at around $18 billion and will see 9,000 MW of capacity come on line in six phases. The project also features six desalination units producing 720 million gallons of water per day.
