Saudi authorities are to enforce a ban in the import of electrical products that utilise voltages less than the European 220-volt standard, a report by the Arab News has said.
A six-month grace period starting in December will begin the process, so that by June 2012 any electrical appliance running on less than 127 volts will be banned from the market.
Five years after that, appliances running on less than 220 volts will also be banned, although a spokesman for Saudi Customs has said that spares availability for 127-volt appliances would be ensure for 15 years.
