Qatar's longest sewer completed

Korean firm Ultra Construction and Engineering has celebrated the completion of Qatar’s longest sewer tunnel, which connects the northern area of Doha from Markhiya to Umm Salal Ali.

At 33.25km, the tunnel has 98 deep shafts and ranges in diameter from 100mm to 2,400mm. Work commenced on the project in May 2008 with a US$45 million budget, and Hyun-Jung Kang, CEO of Ultra, said: “This marks the record-breaking completion of Micro Tunnelling in Qatar – a great achievement for us, our partners and Qatar.”
