Police were called in earlier this week to deal with protestors at Saudi Electricity Company (SEC)’s offices, as a result of power outages affecting the Qassim region.

An SEC company statement said that the cuts had been due to overloads causing a collapse in the network, according to the Arab News daily.

Jeddah and the Qassim province have been the areas most afflicted by power outages in recent week, and SEC has promised to provide an uninterrupted service in Jeddah due to the concerns of industrialists in the economic hub.

Saudi Arabia, like all the GCC nations, is making a considerable effort to add 13,000MW to its network over the next three year.
